about what we do shop get involved resources		WELCOME to the green project! VOLUNTEER   Volunteers are always welcome at The Green Project. Volunteer groups and individuals are invited to join us Monday-Saturday during warehouse store hours. We provide an educational, fun and often physically exhilarating experience for volunteers.   Some of the things you might do as a volunteer at The Green Project include: loading and unloading vehicles, carrying donated building materials into the warehouse, sorting materials (trim, lumber, electrical supplies, lighting), painting, pulling nails, sweeping, measuring doors and more. Our needs are different every day.   Be Bob Villa for a Day Do you have a skill or trade that others can benefit from? Come share your knowledge with our members. Topics may include weatherization, paint techniques, plumbing, installing windows doors, tile, carpet, etc. Workshops are held on Saturdays. Contact our Workshop Coordinator at kkempf@thegreenproject.org to sign up!   Spreading the Word Attend local events and festivals with The Green Project staff. Assist with setting up/breaking down of displays and communicating our mission and services to the general public.   Work in The Green Project Office Join the underappreciated Green Project office staff to stuff envelopes, maintain our membership database, update this beautiful website, write grant proposals, organize publicity for our workshops & art openings, or other fun administrative tasks.   A few things to keep in mind before you come: Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator at lpaul@thegreenproject.org to set up your first day. We usually can't accept walk-in volunteers. Always wear closed-toed shoes. Work boots are great; steel-toed shoes are best. Wear your grungiest old clothes. Plan on getting very, very dirty. Bring work gloves if you have them, especially if you're working in our warehouse store. (We have extras, but they are filthy so it's nice to wear your own.) Bring a water bottle (especially in the summer). You'll be very glad you did. Our warehouse is not climate controlled so expect it to be as warm or cold inside as it is outside. When you get here: Please complete our volunteer information form, if you have not done so in the past. Copies are available at the front desk of the warehouse. Be sure to sign in when you arrive and sign out when you leave. A sign in/out notebook is also at the front desk. We use this information to track volunteer hours for grants, so it's very important!! Please be safe! The nature of our business means that there are nails, sharp corners, tripping hazards, and unstable piles. If you lift anything, be sure to use safe lifting techniques. Know your restrictions. If you aren't sure, ask a staff person. Be alert. The Green Project needs volunteers from every background, with all skill levels to do many different kinds of jobs. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. There is no upper age limit. Whether you can come three days a week, or just once a month, we have a volunteer position for you! Also, we can accommodate people working off their community service hours.
